HIGHBROOK PARK

Public BBQ

Highbrook Park in Muswellbrook proved to be one of those delightfully unexpected discoveries that makes you wonder why more places don't get the basics so thoroughly right. The star attraction is undoubtedly the "lizard slide" – a contraption so gleefully terrifying that watching children hurtle down at what felt like highway speeds became my primary entertainment. The playground sprawls across well-maintained grounds with enough variety to exhaust even the most energetic youngsters, while parents can retreat to the abundant shaded seating areas and contemplate the curious Australian genius for creating spaces that actually work. The facilities are impressively comprehensive: clean toilets, water bubblers, BBQ equipment, and enough security cameras to make you feel properly looked after without feeling surveilled. The bike track provides an excellent outlet for young wheels, and the fully gated perimeter offers that rare commodity – genuine peace of mind for parents.
